Watch authentication: when case-back photos are needed
15 June 2026 · 5 min read
Not every watch order needs a case-back photo — but when it does, knowing your options saves time and avoids delays.
Watch authentication is photo-based — you do not post your watch nationally. For most models, dial, case, crown, bracelet and clasp images are enough. Some pieces, especially certain luxury and premium brands, may need a clear case-back photo to complete review.
Why case-back images matter
The case back can reveal movement markings, serial conventions, finishing quality and other details that are hard to judge from the dial alone. Reviewers request these images when the model checklist requires them — not on every order.
- Movement and engraving details visible through the case back
- Serial or reference consistency with the dial and paperwork
- Aftermarket or replaced parts that affect authenticity assessment
- Build quality indicators on premium references
If you cannot take the photo yourself
Many owners do not have case-back tools and should not force a watch open. Practical options in 2026:
- Visit a local watchmaker for a quick case-back photo
- Come to LuvLuxe at 1a/23 Nind St, Southport for hands-on help
- Ask the seller to provide case-back images before you pay
We show a short notice at checkout for watch categories so you know this may apply before you pay.
Premium watch pricing
Brands such as Rolex, Omega, Cartier and other premium references are priced from $99 AUD due to additional review requirements. Standard luxury watches start from $49 AUD. You always see your price before payment.
